Title: "Identity Theft... Don't Let It Happen To You!"

Description: During this session, Sue Kerr from the Iowa Attorney General’s Office will offer practical advice along with precautionary steps that you can take to reduce your risk of becoming an identity theft victim. Included in this session will be a brief introduction about Social Security numbers, credit reports and privacy notices, a discussion on junk mail, telemarketing, and how these things relate to identity theft and the differences in using a credit card versus a debit card when making purchases.

Title: Money Smart - an Adult and Young Adult Financial Education Curriculum

Description: In 2001 the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) launched Money Smart, a comprehensive financial education curriculum designed to help individuals outside the financial mainstream develop financial skills and positive banking relationships. This presentation will provide an overview of curriculums available through Money Smart.

Title: MoneySKILL® -- Linking High School Students with Personal Finance

Description: MoneySKILL, a free online course, teaches personal finance concepts on income, expenses, saving, credit and insurance. The workshop will cover the course changes to include class registration and student information, selecting specific modules, retaking a module, importing class roster and the electronic grade book.

You’ll also get ideas on unique lesson plans, developing entrepreneurial skills, and Roth IRAs.

Title: Iowa Core Curriculum- 21st Century Skills

Description: Hear from Dianna Briggs from the University of Northern Iowa who will help provide an overview of the 21st Century Skills and help attendees strategize on implementing these skills into their own class rooms. Dianna Briggs, who played a large role in the development of the 21st Century Skills now mandated through Iowa law, will facilitate a brainstorming discussion that will help attendees develop plans and ideas that can be taken back into the classroom during the 2009-2010 school.

Title: Major Credit Card Changes on the Horizon

Description: President Obama recently signed the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure or Credit CARD Act of 2009 into law. In this session you will learn how the legislation will both positively and negatively impact consumers. Learn how you can teach your students the ropes to wise credit card use. You also will learn about some alternatives to turning a high school or college student loose with a credit card.

Description: Don’t know where to find materials that would fit the requirements of the 21st Century Skills? This interactive, online tour will help you find a vast array of free financial literacy information available that is geared toward your students. By the end of the session, you’ll be equipped with real examples to assist in curriculum development and will be able to easily navigate the Jump$tart Coalition’s financial education clearinghouse.
